David Malcolm


David leads design and planning for McAdams within the Charlotte Region. David’s focus within the practice is improving communities by bringing form to planning and design projects for private and public sector clients. His specialties range from the design and creation of vibrant public spaces, to the planning of new communities within urban, mixed-use, resort and destination locations. He has successfully lead public consensus building for small town main street revitalization projects to large brown-field redevelopment sites in metropolitan areas.

Within the arena of urban design and streetscape projects, David has become a leader, expert and trainer in the re-development of Main Street communities and small downtowns. Recently, a major interest and focus on sustainability, has led to commissions for projects that strive to lessen their carbon footprint, achieve energy cost neutral development and no-potable water usage, as well as compliance with the newly established Sustainable Sites Initiative. His daily responsibilities include leading design projects and working with a staff of landscape architects, engineers, planners, and administrators, managing workflow and production scheduling.

David holds a bachelor of landscape architecture from Virginia Tech and is a registered landscape (RLA) in North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
