An Eco-Friendly & Safety Conscious Turf Field

UNC Chapel Hill, Hooker Fields Improvements

Chapel Hill, NC

Hooker Fields is a synthetic turf field facility used by intramurals for sports such as flag football, soccer, softball and kickball, as well as club sports such as ultimate frisbee, soccer and rugby. In addition, the renovated fields will be used to host concerts and other University events. McAdams was selected by UNC-CH to provide field survey, SUE, engineering design and construction administration services for a significant renovation of the fields. The goal of this project is to reconfigure the area to provide regulation-size playing fields and a safe playing area for the Campus Recreation program. This includes replacing the field turn with 110% recyclable synthetic turf and a new high-efficiency lighting system making it one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly recreation fields in the country. To make the field safer for students and athletes, the new field will have one and a half inches of thick foam used for drainage and a safety pad.
