McAdams Announces East Coast Greenway Board Appointment

Iona Thomas, AICP has been appointed to the East Coast Greenway Alliance Board of Trustees. Iona serves as Director of Public Sector for McAdams.

In this three-year board appointment with the East Coast Greenway Alliance, Iona will be responsible for governance, fiscal oversight and financial development for the non-profit organization. The board sets policies and ensures the financial health and viability of the Alliance.

Iona began her involvement with the East Coast Greenway in 2008 as chair of the North Carolina State Committee. “I was initially inspired by the audacious vision laid out by our Alliance founders to create the urban sister to the Appalachian Trail,” Iona said. “We have to make big, strategic moves to achieve the level of investment necessary to make the East Coast Greenway a reality. I’m convinced that between our current Board and Staff we have the creativity, drive and discipline we need to develop and execute a plan that results in significant near-term progress.”

The East Coast Greenway is the country’s longest connected biking and walking route, traveling through 15 states and 450 cities and towns from Maine to Florida. To date, 900 of the route’s 3,000 miles are on protected, traffic-free paths. The East Coast Greenway Alliance works with federal and regional officials, state committees, local officials and legions of dedicated volunteers to bring this entire route to life.
