  1. Designed an underground stormwater storage tank to allow for more than 40 additional parking spaces because patients need easy access to and from their healthcare visits.
  2. Worked closely with City planning officials to meet all buffer requirements for minimal tree impacts. This site was influenced by flight patterns because proximity of this trauma center’s helipad was critical.
  3. Reconfigured entrance and medians as part of our design because circulation of hospital patient, staff and visitors allows for ease of access in and out of the facility which means one less thing to worry about.

Carolinas HealthCare Women’s & Children’s Hospital

In today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape, convenient community care is a must. Carolinas HealthCare System’s Women’s Center needed an expansion and renovation to better serve the burgeoning community of Monroe, NC. Just as important, the hospital improvements garner a new image for its Women’s Services as it competes with other providers in an area with a growing population.

Ease of entrance to the hospital through road tie ins and circulation designed for patient, visitor and staff flow were all part of creating a better experience. Parking spaces are a premium everywhere these days, but especially at a healthcare facility where time and convenience matter a little more. Designing underground stormwater storage was a way to expand parking and enhance ADA parking while increasing the footprint of the building. However, not all patients come in through the front doors of this hospital. We partnered with CMC, their team of specialists and the City of Monroe Planners to design a helipad that minimizes the impacts to the trees based on flight patterns and could transport critical patients for the care they need quickly.
