Stream Stabilization

Homeland Avenue
Durham, NC
The City of Durham desired to improve sanitary sewer utility easement access, reduce the rate of stream erosion and protect the existing gravity sewer from damage, along an unnamed tributary of Third Fork Creek, near Homeland Avenue in Durham, NC. The project involved the relocation and stabilization of approximately 1,450 linear feet of stream along an existing sanitary sewer outfall. Stream stabilization (in the form of a restoration project) was utilized as a protection measure for the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure as the existing stream was encroaching into the sanitary sewer location. Final design is complete, awaiting on construction.
