The goal of this project is to stabilize approximately 190 linear feet of impaired stream bank for Irwin Creek in Charlotte, North Carolina. Irwin Creek is a major drainage-way for the City of Charlotte, with a watershed of approximately 3.4 square miles at the project site. The stream is slightly entrenched, which over time has led to bank instability due to higher flows being contained to the channel. The bank erosion that has occurred is in the backyards of several private homeowners, threatening private property and causing a public safety issue. A design has been proposed to stabilize the streambank using natural channel design techniques.
