Stormwater Management

Oak Island Town Hall
The stormwater management system, designed by others, for the Town Hall had failed and was in need of replacement. McAdams was retained by the Town of Oak Island to develop a plan to redesign a failed on-site stormwater management system. This was complicated due to the presence of contaminated groundwater that migrated into the system. McAdams was able to revise the stormwater management permit for the site which facilitated the abandonment of the current stormwater holding and pumping system in the rear of the property. McAdams then designed a series of cisterns to collect and redirect roof drainage from the buildings to the existing infiltration area. Phase II environmental assessment was conducted to evaluate the extent of groundwater contamination and obtain data to support the design of a new system and decommissioning of the failed system. Construction was successfully completed in 2018. Through innovative stormwater design and integrations of environmental services into the process, McAdams will be able to help the Town recognize a significant cost savings.
