Hooker Fields is a synthetic turf field facility used by intramurals for sports such as flag football, soccer, softball and kickball, as well as club sports such as ultimate frisbee, soccer and rugby. In addition, the renovated fields will be used to host concerts and other University events. McAdams was selected by UNC Chapel Hill to provide field surveying, SUE, engineering design and construction administration services for a significant renovation of the fields. The goal of this project was to reconfigure the area to provide regulation-size playing fields and a safe playing area for the Campus Recreation program. This included replacing the existing field turf with a 100% recyclable synthetic turf, along with installation of a new high-efficiency lighting system to make it one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly recreation fields in the country. In addition and to make the field safer for students and athletes with regards to potential concussions and head injuries, the new field has a +/- one-inch Brock Powerbase pad.
