Building Relationships with Rebuilding Together
McAdams’ philanthropic group, McAdams SHARES recently partnered with Rebuilding Together of the Triangle to help a senior citizen with repairs in her Durham, NC home. Rebuilding Together works with low-income families to get critical repairs performed to make their homes healthy and safe. This retired social worker needed help with removal and replacement of 14 windows and we were the team selected to help out. Through the donated funds and time of our team, the window replacements will save the homeowner thousands of dollars on repairs and reduce heating and cooling costs by improving energy efficiency.
The event organizer, McAdam’s own Curt Blazier, commented, “Even though it was challenging work, the group had a blast working together to figure out window installation. Some team members managed to learn a brand-new skill or two. The best part was meeting the homeowner, knowing that we were helping someone who truly needed it.” The 14-member project team enthusiastically recommends participating in more projects with Rebuilding Together of the Triangle. The need is overwhelming, and volunteering for a day or two makes a big difference in the lives of the elderly, veteran, and disabled clients that Rebuilding Together serve. The added benefit is that our team is stronger because of the shared experience of serving a neighbor in need.
