NCDOT, Feasibility Study Template + Pilot Projects

McAdams is developing a standard planning template for NCDOT-funded bicycle and pedestrian corridor feasibility studies. Supporting guidance accompanying the template includes a feasibility “toolbox” with checklists, key focus areas, cost estimating standards and stakeholder guidance that can be applied to projects of all sizes around the State. The template is structured to evaluate improvements on new greenway alignments or as retrofits to existing corridors or facilities and to evaluate various alignment alternatives; scrutinize possible environmental considerations and other opportunities and constraints; examine focused functional designs; and develop preliminary project cost estimates. McAdams is also preparing two feasibility study pilot projects utilizing the template: Middle Fork Greenway in Watauga Countyand North Main Street side-path in Marion.
