Project

Rock Creek, Streambank Restoration

Located approximately 250 linear feet upstream of the Burlington Road culvert in Whitsett, North Carolina, is an approximately 100 linear foot section of the right bank for Rock Creek that failed and was actively eroding. Immediately adjacent to the stream, on the same side, is a walking trail that is owned and maintained by the Stoney Creek HOA, and a City of Greensboro sanitary sewer line located roughly 15 feet away from the existing bank. The streambank failure damaged the walking trail and was threatening the integrity of the sanitary sewer line. McAdams worked with the Stoney Creek HOA to develop a streambank restoration design that would provide needed stability and protection of the nature trail, sanitary sewer, and stream channel. McAdams designed a boulder J-hook and boulder toe revetment coupled with soil lifts. The project was located within Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regulated floodplain and a no-rise was achieved. Construction was completed in November 2022.
