With decades of experience in sports and entertainment environments, McAdams understands the unique challenges these facilities face, from daily operations to long-term performance and maintenance. Our team designs with the full lifecycle in mind, ensuring each facility supports efficient operations, enhances the athlete and spectator experience and delivers lasting value to the communities it serves.

Our team now includes Sports Design Group (SDG), a firm bringing dedicated athletic field and track design expertise. SDG brings decades of hands-on experience in natural turf, synthetic turf, track surfacing and court design, having designed or overseen construction on more than 800 fields and tracks across the country. That expertise now supports every McAdams sports and entertainment project, from site selection and drainage design through the final field test.

Professional

At a professional venue, the field is part of the building. Richard McDonald, who leads our athletic facility design work, has designed playing surfaces for the Minnesota Twins, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Astros. We work with stadium architects and grounds crews on systems fans never see, from undersoil heating to below-grade drainage, so the surface holds up through a full season, concerts and quick event turnovers.

Collegiate

A college field rarely belongs to one sport. Current McAdams work includes Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium, UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan Stadium and the stadium at NC State’s Doak Field, and Richard’s experience adds Texas A&M’s Kyle Field and Notre Dame Stadium. Football, soccer, lacrosse and rugby often share the same space, so we plan for surfaces that see far more practice than game days and still look ready on Saturday.

K-12 + Municipal

School districts and parks departments build on public budgets and schedules that don’t move. Our work includes McKinney ISD’s 12,000-seat stadium and Northwest ISD’s district-wide field and track renovations, both completed by Sports Design Group before joining McAdams, along with Wilmington’s nCino Sports Park, Jacksonville’s Sports, Recreation and Event Complex and Lee County’s 121-acre Athletic Park. Every field has to be ready by opening day and hold up to weekday recreation, weekend tournaments and a lean maintenance crew.
