Charlotte Stormwater Design Manual Update
McAdams collaborated with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) to update and enhance their Stormwater Design Manual, which had last been updated in 2013. The Charlotte and McAdams team worked diligently to update the Design Manual’s technical information, organization, and appearance. The draft manual now is clearer and more concise with eye-catching engineering details, summary tables for ease of reference, and photographs to illustrate key points. The updated manual also meets ADA accessibility requirements.

“Working with McAdams on the Stormwater Design Manual revision has been an exciting journey, driven by their dedication and professionalism that has truly surpassed our expectations and vision.”
Stewart Edwards, Deputy Division Manager Engineering and Design, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services

The updated Design Manual:
- Creates a connection between the Stormwater Design Manual and the Charlotte Land Development Standards Manual / Mecklenburg County Land Development Standards Manual by omitting repeated information and frequently referencing the Land Development Standards Manuals.
- Updates the information in the Design Manual to match current stormwater requirements, regulations, and accepted best practices.
- Streamlines information by focusing on City of Charlotte, Charlotte ETJ, and Mecklenburg County requirements and reduces lengthy explanations of common engineering topics.
- Creates a more visually appealing and stimulating Design Manual by including colorful diagrams and images.
