Ecusta Rail Trail (BF-0002) Design

Through the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Western Division Limited Services Contract, McAdams serves as the lead design consultant for this eight-mile section of the Ecusta Trail. The 30% design phase included, line and grade modeling, preliminary drainage review, culvert analysis, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hydraulic modeling (Davidson and French Broad Rivers), structural inspection and design, traffic safety investigations, and public involvement. The bridge evaluation for this project included inspection of eight structures to determine rehabilitation vs replacement options and costs. Three of the structures were deemed sufficient to retain and rehabilitate. With preliminary engineering complete, McAdams is advancing toward 100% design completion for this high priority greenway project in Western North Carolina.
