Pressley Road Park + Greenway

Located in west Charlotte in the Clanton Park / Roseland neighborhood, Pressley Road Park is an existing neighborhood park that sits on approximately six acres and features a playground and a predominantly natural surface walking trail with one stream crossing. As part of the Equity Parks Investment Projects program, the McAdams team was commissioned to update the park master plan and perform a greenway feasibility study, followed by full design and construction documents to implement the study’s recommendations.

Efforts for the greenway feasibility study included developing designs and cost estimates to upgrade the trail, siting a new bridge, and confirming compliance with floodplain permitting requirements. The proposed upgrades to the trail component include providing paved surfaces, wider clear span on the bridge crossing, accessible grades and lighting. These elements will improve accessibility, visibility and connectivity between the neighborhoods to the north at Manchester Drive / Blandwood Drive and south at Pressley Road. In addition to the greenway improvements, the identification of suitable areas for landscaping and other park amenities have rounded out master planning efforts. McAdams has supported the County’s community engagement efforts on the project, including attending multiple community events / meetings with mapping and visual preference boards, as well as utilizing an online survey to better understand the desires of local residents.

McAdams advanced the preferred concept design from the feasibility study through full design, construction documents and permitting. Final design elements included over 1,700 linear feet of accessible paved greenways including lighting and a 70-foot span pedestrian bridge over a regulated floodplain. Park design amenities include playground equipment, fitness equipment, an artistic shade structure, a picnic area with grilling station, an open lawn area, arbor swings, multiple seating areas, a unique rock scramble feature, a water fountain, and enhanced landscaping.
