Project
UNC Charlotte, CRI Entrance Improvements
The Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) improvements create a new gateway into campus by designing large lighted pillars, main signage, hardscape paths and seatwalls with a framed formal lawn area which simulates a “welcome mat” for visitors and guests. Extensive three-dimensional modeling and animation was used throughout the process to collaborate, engage with staff and users and refine the design. The CRI campus entrance is considered the second main entrance into campus. As the campus continues to grow and redevelopment progresses in response to the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Blue line extension, this side of campus will become a much denser development typology. Additionally, the football stadium is framed by this campus entrance feature.
