Cary Greenway Safety Campaign

McAdams completed an inventory of 100 miles of existing greenway trail, greenway connectors, and sidepaths for the Town of Cary to document the conditions relative to the safety, design practices, accessibility, and the ability to incorporate e-bike use. This project was a major component of a systemwide safety and education campaign to build community ownership and pride, encourage positive user behavior, and to create recognition for the outdoor recreation tourism assets in Cary. The McAdams team leveraged StreetLight™ data and Town of Cary greenway counters to produce a system-wide user volume map, and recommend locations for additional greenway counters in high volume areas. An ease-of-use rating for the entire greenway network based on GIS slope analysis, field observations, and video documentation was developed to assist the Town in identifying areas for accessibility, safety and maintenance improvements.
