The project focused on evaluating the existing drainage network to identify areas where the system fails to meet the City’s level of service and capital project design criteria. In addition to Winthrop Avenue, the downstream drainage network along Ideal Way and McDonald Avenue was analyzed for capacity limitations and potential infrastructure improvements.
McAdams developed a range of traditional and innovative stormwater management solutions, enabling the City to make informed budgetary decisions for future flood mitigation efforts. These alternatives were evaluated for their effectiveness in flood protection, environmental impact, constructability, cost-efficiency, and City of Charlotte Design Criteria.
An Engineering Planning Report was submitted to the City of Charlotte in October 2023, outlining recommended solutions. McAdams is currently preparing construction drawings for the selected alternative, with construction anticipated to begin in 2026.
These are some of the best, most detailed, and legible plans I have seen since I have taken this position. I spent 15 years in the private sector doing commercial and residential projects and 9 with the City and these are among the highest quality plans I have seen. Max has done a great job and I really appreciate the attention to detail and the quality of the design. I don’t send emails like this often, but these plans warranted the recognition. Thanks for all the great work!
