Project

Mesquite ISD, Range Elementary School Park

Range Elementary School and City Park is a collaborative community project between the City of Mesquite and Mesquite ISD. Both the school and the park were existing facilities in need of updates to better serve the surrounding neighborhood. The project was phased to allow continued use of the site. A new school was constructed within a portion of the existing park, after which the original school building was demolished. That space was then reimagined with expanded park amenities. This approach allowed the design team to enhance the park area directly impacted by construction while also revitalizing portions of the park that remained intact.

McAdams’ landscape architecture team developed a cohesive design that balanced new amenities with existing site character. Sports fields were upgraded, new amenities were introduced and select features from the original park were salvaged and refurbished. A connected trail system was added to unify the site and improve circulation between the school and park spaces. Preserving mature trees from the original park was a key design consideration, providing natural shade and continuity with the site’s history. The updated park now offers safer, modern amenities with full accessibility, creating an inclusive outdoor environment that supports recreation, education and community use.
