Mesquite ISD, Rutherford Elementary School Park

McAdams works with the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Independent School
District to ensure that each new elementary school has a public park adjacent to it for
serving the local community.

Rutherford Elementary School and Park has a soft surface playground for 5-8 year
old kids with nearby built in seating and planters and an area for outdoor classrooms.
There is also a more robust playground next to the school for ages 8-12. The various
park areas are interconnected by a series of trails to tie the playgrounds, to the sports
fields and to the hard-surface sports activities. A unique feature of Rutherford is an
A/C condensation recovery and reuse system to supplement the the irrigation system.
All plantings were selected to be low water use and follow the “Texas Smartscape”
guidelines.
