Project
Carraway Community Park Redevelopment
This park redevelopment is an inclusive play park that allows for children with a range of physical, mental and other disabilities to enjoy a play environment, participating in various fun and learning experiences. Half of the site is an enabling playground and the other half was dedicated to public parking for both the playground and for additional parking for the Riverwalk access, which lies directly across the street from the project site. The site is a part of the historic mill village of Brookland and elements of the historic architecture were incorporated into the park design, including the recreation of a section of a historic brick wall, which previously dotted the area and is repeated throughout the adjacent neighborhood. The park design has a series of terraced play spaces straddled by a larger play structure, which is accessible at each of the terraces as the site cascades downward from one corner of the property to the opposite.
