Morgan Creek Greenway, East Extension

The proposed greenway will be an extension of the existing 10-foot-wide Morgan Creek Trail. Beginning at Merritt’s Pasture, a conserved remnant of the Town’s agricultural history. The greenway will continue east to possible connections to UNC Chapel Hill’s campus and the North Carolina botanical gardens. The greenway will predominantly lie on Town-owned property, North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) rights-of-way, and neighborhood streets. The work includes feasibility analysis to determine a preferred route, extensive community engagement, surveying, engineering design for the selected route, and permitting services. The Town has received American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for design and wayfinding improvements which will include public art.
