Naomi Drenan Recreation Center + Grayson Park Renovations

As part of Mecklenburg’s effort to reinvigorate existing parks through reinvestment and renovations, McAdams’ landscape architecture, civil engineering, stormwater, and surveying teams were tasked with community engagement to develop renovation concepts through construction documents for Naomi Drenan Recreation Center and adjacent Grayson Park. Working closely with LS3P architects and Spohn Ranch Skatepark Designers, the team created a vision for the park that brought to life the community’s input and the county’s needs. The site features accessibility throughout, a plaza for gathering and perfect for watching the action at the skatepark which underwent renovations, a seamless connection to said skatepark, including skateable stairs and accessible ramp, a space for a future playground, renovated basketball courts with added hillside and bench seating, renovated parking which includes accessible spaces on both sections of the parking lot, and a renovated shelter space which has views to the basketball court and skatepark.
