Project

NC State University, Innovation District

A vibrant innovation environment is emerging on NC State University’s Centennial Campus. Lincoln Properties Group and Goldman Sachs Asset Management were selected as developer-partners for a 32-acre urban, mixed-use development focused on public-private research partnerships. McAdams, in collaboration with the architecture team, is providing landscape architecture, civil engineering, urban planning and design, geomatics, land planning and entitlement, and visualization services to support the estimated $6 billion, multi-phase project. McAdams’s initial role was to prepare a comprehensive design guidelines package to ensure future development facilitates innovation through positive human interaction, a cohesive sense-of-place, and a community where academia and industry collide to create the next generation of solutions.

Project Types

Phase 1 of the project includes the campus defining street network, enabling infrastructure, and “Block 7”, a state-of-the-art life science research facility. McAdams designed a signature urban main street with ample sidewalks, integrated outdoor workstations, and customizable paving patterns that build district identity. This main street leads to Innovation Plaza, the geographic and social center of the community. The adaptive public square epitomizes how McAdams engineering and landscape architecture synergize to create truly innovative research communities.
