Salisbury, Downtown Main Street Streetscape Plan

The City of Salisbury revisited their vision for downtown on three fronts: a Downtown Parking Study; an update to their Downtown Master Plan; and the development of a Downtown Main Street Streetscape Plan to enhance the downtown environment, spur economic investment and increase economic vitality. McAdams worked with the City to gather public and stakeholder input; assess traffic and parking along Main Street; and take a thorough inventory of all adjacent elements that affect the pedestrian experience when visiting Downtown Salisbury. After an analysis of existing conditions and after garnering an understanding of the values that the community holds dear, McAdams and NV5 developed a series of possible alternatives to the layout of spaces and elements from building façade-to-building façade along the more than 10-block stretch of Main Street that falls into the plan study area. After deciding upon a preferred alternative, McAdams took it through schematic design and cost estimation to get a picture of feasibility and of possible phasing for implementation of the streetscape design. The intended result is a flourishing, desirable, pedestrian-friendly environment along the Main Street corridor downtown, offering an appealing, character-filled welcome to all who visit Salisbury’s beautiful, historic downtown.
