Project
UNC Wilmington, Hawk Walk
The UNC Wilmington, Hawk Walk is a major multi-use corridor that links several new student residential and recreational developments to the University’s primary pedestrian spine, Chancellors Walk. From its terminus at the newly constructed Sandpiper and Pelican Residence Halls, it guides students through the outdoor recreation complex, past a new student dining facility and across a coastal pond before joining the Chancellors Walk in the campus academic core. Its design evokes classical campus symmetry and features an approximately 1,000-foot long alley of elm trees, pedestrian seating and decorative light poles. Its 21-foot width provides ample space for pedestrians, bicycles, and other micro-mobility choices. A brick median adds visual sophistication, guides pedestrian traffic and reinforces its identity as a major student thoroughfare.
